Things To Do

We are excited to share some of our favorite spots with you when visiting Greenport!

Although most of our favorite activities involve being out on the water, we’ve collected some of our favorite land-based activities and eats.

Orient

Walk or bike around Orient to see the cute small town around the bend from the wedding location. In Orient, you’ll find a few shops, a yacht club, and a quiet residential neighborhood along the water. Orient Yacht Club was where Scott and his siblings grew up sailing.

Aldo’s Coffee

Our favorite coffee shop in Greenport for a morning coffee and downtown walk. It’s also nice to walk across the train tracks and zigzag through Greenport’s residential neighborhood by the water.

Goldberg’s Famous Bagels

This has been a longtime favorite of the McKinney boys, with fond memories of grabbing breakfast sandwiches while coaching summer sailing. Scott and Ryan's order is a "Hobo with hotsauce on an egg everything bagel".

Shelter Island

Taking the ferry to Shelter Island can make for a fun day or afternoon. Shelter Island is the small island between the north and south forks of Long Island. It is easier to see by car or bike, but walking can also be nice. Ferry costs are $3 to walk on and $26 round trip per car. The ferry on the other side of Shelter Island takes you to Sag Harbor and the Hamptons.

Fun fact: We participated in a friends and family triathlon — swimming from Greenport to Shelter Island, running across Shelter Island, and cycling down the south fork to Montauk.

Lavender Farms

East Marion is home to a beautiful lavender farm, with peak bloom being in July. They require tickets with a visiting time to spread out visitors.

Wine Tasting

Various local vineyards across Long Island are known for their local wines and offer tastings. We have not done any local wine tasting ourselves, but have enjoyed bike rides around the vineyards and agriculture fields on the north fork.
